What is Sleep Apnea?

Getting an adequate amount of sleep is important for human beings. If the sleep cycle is disturbed, it can cause lateral damage to your body, like heart problems. So you must focus on having a sound sleep. Due to the lack of proper sleep, you increase the chances of falling prey to sleep apnea. It is a kind of sleep disorder in which people repeatedly start and stop breathing activity. It is advised to visit the sleep specialist at the earliest if you encounter a breathing problem during sleep to avoid further damage. Generally, sleep specialists classify sleep apnea into three types and are mentioned below.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea

This is the condition when the patient's throat muscles tend to relax, and this type of apnea is very common and can be seen in many people.

Central Sleep Apnea

It is a bit complex when compared to Obstructive Sleep Apnea, where the patient's brain fails to send the proper signal to the muscle that controls the breathing activity and thus encounters the breathing problem.

Complex Sleep Apnea Syndrome

This is the most complicated one where the patient experiences both Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Central Sleep Apnea. It is also known as treatment-emergent central sleep apnea.

When we speak about the symptoms, most of them for obstructive and complex sleep apnea is the same, making it a bit harder to determine which one you have. The symptoms are:

  • Snoring loud
  • Gasping for air during sleep
  • Headache in the morning
  • Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Difficulty in paying attention

If you encounter any of the symptoms mentioned above, then it is highly recommended to consult the sleep specialist as soon as possible and avoid potential damage. There are a plethora of problems that you can encounter during sleep apnea, and some of them are mentioned below.

  • You are constantly in danger of the high blood pressure
  • It increases the chances of getting strokes
  • It can cause irregular heartbeats, which can lead to heart failure
  • You might also slip into the pit of depression
  • You will constantly feel a headache
  • It has the potential to induce diabetes
